Senior Companions

Join community of adults aged 55 and older that offer companionship and support to other adults across Siouxland — helping them remain independent while earning a tax-free stipend.

The Heart of the Program

The relationship between a Senior Companion and the adult they serve changes both lives. The intangible benefits are immeasurable — for the volunteer, the client, and the community.

Supportive Friendship

Be a steady, caring presence for adults who are frail or living with chronic health needs — and respite for the caregivers who love them.

Independent Living

Help other adults remain in their own homes by sharing your life experience, attention, and a little practical assistance.

Stronger Community

Stay active and engaged in your neighborhood. Benefit physically, mentally, and emotionally from being needed.

Benefits of Serving

01

Tax-Free Stipend

Income-eligible volunteers receive a tax-free hourly stipend averaging over $200 a month — it does not affect Social Security or other benefits.

02

Meals & Transportation

Reimbursement for transportation costs and partial meal expenses, so volunteering doesn’t leave you covering those costs on your own.

03

Monthly Training

Ongoing training sessions keep you connected with fellow companions and prepared for whatever your client needs.

04

Flexible Hours

Volunteer 5–40 hours each week with flexible scheduling and time off when life requires it.

“I was feeling lonesome and burned out. Spending time with others and helping them has filled a void in my life.”

– A Senior Companion, Siouxland
